How/Why did you start CrossFit? Paul Nolasco pestered me for 2 ½ years to come try it. I tried it sporadically but was always too sore to come back. One day I realized how fat I was getting and that I had no energy to play with my kids in the evenings so I decided to start coming twice a week while adjusting my diet. Twice a week went to 3 times a week and then to 4-5 times a week and now it’s a part of my everyday routine. My days just don’t seem right any more if I don’t make it to the gym.

Take us back to your first day in CrossFit…. The first day, of my twice a week plan, was pretty bad and I was reconsidering that plan right away. It was a run heavy day and I hadn’t run in quite a while, so needless to say I was struggling something serious. On top of that we had to do Burpees, and burpees ain’t fun for the big boys. It was a rough couple of weeks starting out, but after week 3 things started to get a little better. I had more energy during the day, at the gym, and most importantly with my kids so that really motivated me to keep pushing.

What kind of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit? I’ve seen HUGE changes in my body since starting Crossfit, I have lost over 40 lbs since January 19th 2017 and down 60lbs. overall. I am almost in the best shape of my life and I look to continue getting better. Crossfit has provided health benefits to me in ways I didn’t realize before, such as not snoring any more, no gastrointestinal issues, and really helping my mental health all around. I do attribute a good bit of my changes to my diet. I used to not care what I put in my body which is why I ended up where I was. Since joining and talking to other members and coaches I have learned the importance of a proper diet with exercise and that the two combined are what will lead to the best version of ME physically and mentally.

Have you experienced any changes in your life since beginning CrossFit that have been totally unexpected? The biggest change for me has been my energy levels as they are through the roof all day. Mentally I don’t get exhausted and stressed like a used too. I use the workouts as a way to train my brain to deal with tough situations and to dig deep even when it hurts.

Please share your favorite CrossFit Harrisburg moment(s): The 2018 Friday Night Lights was one of my most favorite times at the gym. It reminded me of back when I used to play Football and Baseball, the high pressure and high intensity is awesome, and I feel like I thrive in that environment.  Also, any lunch time when all the guys show up to the gym and we push each other to the limit.

Any advice for those just getting started? 1st. Just Show up! 2nd. Do what your body allows. 3rd. Give it all you got for that little bit of time you’re in the gym.

Why CrossFit Harrisburg? The Coaches and Community are awesome! I can’t be happier that I have the opportunity to work out here with all these great people.
